climate change on pelagic ecosystems in the rapidly changing environments of the
eastern Bering Sea. The Bering Sea ecosystem is an area of considerable scope and complexity, thus this position requires independent thought and innovative and creative approaches to laboratory and data analyses. Tasks include serving as Lead Oceanographer during research surveys including maintenance and troubleshooting of oceanographic gear, collection of physical and biological oceanographic parameters, assuring quality control of oceanographic data collected during surveys, laboratory processing of chlorophyll samples, data management using Access databases, data analyses and statistical evaluation, mapping and support in manuscript preparation. Work will be conducted in with stock assessment scientists and fisheries biologists at the AFSC and the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, to produce peer reviewed publications on the relationship between climate forcing and pelagic productivity along the eastern Bering Sea shelf. There will also be freedom to identify and select important problems and areas for future and ongoing studies, so skills in proposal writing to obtain additional funds are required.
